SRI LANKA JOURNAL OF ENGLISH IN THE COMMONWEALTH
The founding editors of Phoenix: Sri Lanka Journal of English in the Commonwealth were DCRA
Goonetilleke and Lakshmi de Silva who stepped down after producing volume IV 1993. The next issue (a
double volume V & VI) was co-edited by Nihal Fernando and Lilamani de Silva in 1997. There was a
further gap of eight years before Ashley Halpé and Carl Muller brought out volume VII in 2005; in the
process, they renamed the subheading as “Journal of The Sri Lanka Association for Commonwealth
Literature and Language Studies.” Nihal Fernando and Walter Perera revived the journal in 2011 with
volume VIII and reverted to the original subheading. Thereafter, they brought out together volumes IX
2012, X & XI (2013 & 2014), and volumes XIII and XIV (2016 & 2017). Walter Perera edited volume XII
(2015) and volumes XV & XVI (2018 & 2019).
